IN THE MID 60'S THE BEATLES ARE
HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE...
We pick up the chronological historical review of the Beatles in 1965.

BEATLES' HISTORICAL TIMELINE...

  • 1965... In April 'Ticket To Ride' reaches #1. Later in August The Beatles go on a US tour that includes a concert at New York's Shea Stadium. The Attendance exceeded 55,000 and the $304,000 gross take is claimed as the biggest

    gross in show business history. The Beatles second feature film 'HELP' and movie album are released. In December, 'We Can Work It Out' is the tenth consecutive hit to be an instant #1 in Britain. George's growing interest in India is displayed on 'Rubber Soul' on which he plays the sitar on 'Norwegian Wood'. The Beatles commence a tour of Britain which, although not announced, is to be their last tour of UK.

  • 1966... In June, 'Paperback Writer' is the first single in over two years not to jump straight to the top of the British charts. The Beatles embark on a world tour that includes Japan. In August, John is quoted as saying that the "Beatles are now more popular than Christ". This causes a furor in the states where some people and groups, including the Ku Klux Klan, burn Beatle records and effigies in protest. Beatles begin last US tour and it becomes their biggest grosser. Their final live appearance anywhere in the world is in on August 29th in San Francisco at Candlestick Park. The 'Revolver' LP includes the first hint of drug influences on 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. In September John appears in the film How I Won The War.

  • 1967... In February George and Patti Harrison meet with the Maharishi. The Beatles retired from personal appearances and touring. From here on all work is in studios.

    'Penny Lane'/'Strawberry Fields' released and is first single since 'Love Me Do' to fail to reach #1. In June 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' is released. In July The Beatles appear on a world-wide TV program called Our World and sing 'All You Need Is Love'. That song is released as single and reached #1. In August, Brian Epstein commits suicide while the Beatles attend a course given by the Maharishi in Wales. In December Magical Mystery Tour TV film and album are released. Plans for Apple announced.

  • 1968... In February The Beatles study in India with the Maharishi. Many plans are announced for Apple. In March 'Lady Madonna' is released and reaches #1. In June John's marriage to Cynthia falls apart and he is seen openly with Yoko Ono. In July the cartoon film Yellow Submarine is premiered. In August Apple shop is suddenly closed.

    In September 'Hey Jude', the first release on new Apple label, reaches #1. In November the Beatles release the 'White' album. Also released is John and Yoko's 'Two Virgins' with a cover picture of them both in the nude.

  • 1969... In January filming of Let It Be begins. Rifts between John and Paul are widening. In March Paul marries Linda Eastman. John marries Yoko Ono. In April 'Get Back' topped the charts. In May 'The Ballad of John and Yoko' reaches #1. In July the Plastic Ono Band releases 'Give Peace A Chance'. In August, 'Abbey Road', the Beatle's last album is recorded. Linda gives birth to Paul's first daughter, Mary. In October the Plastic Ono Band releases 'Cold Turkey'. George

    Harrison's 'Something' reaches #2 for the Beatles. In November, John returns his MBE award as a protest against Britain's involvement in the wars in Biafra and Vietnam.

  • 1970... In February the Plastic Ono Band releases 'Instant Karma". In April Paul issues a home-made album of his own songs entitles 'McCartney'. In May there is a premier for the film Let It Be but none of the Beatles show up. The Beatles become more and more artistically independant of each other. Ringo releases his own album called 'Sentimental Journey'. In September Ringo's next release is 'Beaucoup Of Blues'. George releases his album entitles 'All Things Must Pass'. In December john releases an album entitled 'John Lennon' by John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. Paul files a court suit demanding the dissolution of the Beatles, and the appointment of a receiver. The Beatles, the greatest rock-and-roll band ever, have broken up.
